The foundation of our business is built on a diversified strategy dedicated to four core business pillars. Our pursuits focus on durable and sustainable business plans using a disciplined approach. We strive to find opportunities that create community benefit impact and generational wealth creation through a long-term investment lense. 

  • We seek to acquire existing properties in the region, with a focus on well-located apartment communities. Acquisition targets with values of $5 million and up are typically pursued, with smaller assets considered on a selective basis. Other property types will be considered on a selective basis.

  • Rooted in holistic community asset building, we apply the lense of equitable access, long-term resident experience and overall community benefit while bringing together public, private and nonprofit partnerships into complex financing structures.

  • Our development platform creates high-quality assets that take an inside-out approach with a focus on the projects’ end-user, while considering integration with the fabric of the surrounding community and built environment. By focusing on the best experience for the users of our buildings over the long-term, our assets aim to outperform among our peer set. Our experience in development includes housing, office, and retail projects.

  • We selectively offer consulting and advisory services that include third party development management, acquisition and asset management services.

Investment Geography

HMS has its roots in the Portland MSA. We know the communities, the lenders, the zoning, the commissions, even the coalitions, and remain focused on the immediate region along with the greater Northwest markets for primary investment.
